Pretty good, but a little too frustrating

The game is pretty good, except it's not balanced at all. As people have said the later levels are pretty difficult. The last level is near impossible, and though I figured out how to beat it I'm not going to spend the time necessary to do so (especially since GAME DOESN'T SAVE your progress).

What people should realize is that the rocket jet and the thief are your best units. Especially when combined with the general to stop the other boss units.

***The other important thing is that babes heal the giant mecha-monsters. I hadn't realized this at first, and thought that the mechanics would heal them. The game was a lot easier after this.

To beat the 7th and 8th levels just upgrade your buildings, and after they are all upgraded use thieves to steal money and jets to kill the units that kill your thiefs. You may need to use a bomberman if the enemies are too close to your base for the jet to kill. Use the general that slows stuff whenever a boss comes.

After you have a bunch of money just get two of the $700 monster or one of each of them. Use babes to heal them and also use jets to kill remaining enemies. Levels 7 and 8 shouldn't take more than 10 minutes this way, it's pretty easy.

Unfortunately the last level, Devil's Hell is really frustrating. The strategy is essentially the same, except there are soo many of the monsters that you need to be really lucky. The main problem I have is that the $700 monsters target the opponents rocket ships and so they are really slow to advance, where as the $400 monsters advance quickly, but one of the opponents green monsters kills them completely. Therefore you have to try and get lucky and randomly guess when a green monster is going to come and time a general or not use the $400 monsters at all.

Your monsters die all the time, so you need to start with a huge amount of $$$ built up before you even start attacking (to fund the rocket jets, nuke jets, babes, and replacement mecha-monsters). I saved up $10,000; but unfortunately I ran out of money when the opponents base was at 2000 health (out of 8000). The bases heal super quickly so I would have had to start over, but if I were to try again I'd probably save up $15,000-$20,000 before I attacked; which is pretty ridiculous. It's super easy not to die though with a combination of rocket ships, thieves, and generals; so if you're patient enough you would eventually win. However I doubt it's worth the time it would take, since there's probably not even a you win screen.

It's a pretty okay game, except it's not well balanced and it's very repetitive (same strategy is best on every half-way difficult level).

To fix how boring the last level is I would do one of the following:
1) increase supply
2) make the enemy green boss unit not kill your rocket ships/ not completely kill your $400 boss unit.
3) make your $700 boss unit not target enemy rocket ships

If just one of those were true it wouldn't be so repetitive to beat the last level, although it still wouldn't be too easy.

this game is lame. if the ball hits you at all it should shoot up, not continue falling down.

Really solid game

This is really good, and I bet you did learn a ton. It's not completely polished, but it's pretty good for a solo project. I do wish that the pokemon leveled up a bit faster, just because it's kind of a small world and there's not much else to do; but it's definitely has enough gameplay value to keep you busy for a while.

It also brought back fond memories of pokemon on gameboy, and it's a nice substitute for a quick pokemon fix without getting into a huge game that will take you days if not weeks.

The only thing I might do is have the pokemon heal automatically after each battle. This is because it's free to heal anyways by putting them in the machine or walking to the guy or re-using potions in small battles; so it would be nice to just have it automatically. I guess it's the same in regular pokemon too with having to walk to get healing, so it's not that big of a deal.

Powerfull responds:

Thank you for commenting. I never really thought about those things. I will keep that in mind for the next time I work on an RPG game. I'm thinking more along the lines of having PokeCenters in convenient areas, along with the ability to use potions outside of battle. Thank you, again, for playing and reviewing!

really good

I liked the game a lot and the upgrades were nice.

one thing is that after the 7th level you can keep going to the next level just no enemies spawn and you stay stuck at the beginning.

KotubukiMedia responds:

THanks for the comment. We'll check it out.

did you get this game tested?

I'm pretty sure it has aids

MTVHIV responds:

We are currently experiencing technical diffuclties* in getting the game tested for HIV. Sorry for any inconvenience.

great, but does't register high scores properly

I got over 5000 a few times since I figured out a trick which is common sense in retrospect. Only some of my scores ever got put up though, and those that did were some of my smaller scores. As long as high scores don't work I might was well tell people the trick: zoom out as far as possible in your internet browser to make the window as small as possible; then of course do the drag the hammer off screen and right click trick.

I put in a score limit to stop hackers and glitchers after jolly got 19k

pretty good, but needs some tweaks

I like the upgrading and game play and played through the whole thing and thought it was pretty good, but just needs a few changes.

Some things that annoyed me are that near the end of the game the zap and the early warning and archers are really just a waste and do nothing to help. I'd much rather be able to get rid of those three spots and replace them with units/spells of my choosing.

I also think that maybe there should be some more upgrades for the survival wave that maybe cost 100+ to upgrade but are stronger. The other problem is that either the units need to spawn faster, get a free spawn of each unit at the beginning of the round, or have the survival round start off a bit slower; because really the fully upgraded commanders are the only thing that can last long in the survival round, but if I want to make a couple of them at once then I'm hardly strong enough to hold off the enemies for the 7 seconds it takes to spawn my strong units; and by that time they get outnumbered 15 to 1 and die shortly after.

All in all a great game though

Kalinium responds:

Thanks for your review! I might look into slowing the final wave down at first to let players spawn the better units.

nice

i liked the atmosphere and style. Also, just so people realize, the flower going back after you do something is part of the puzzle. If you do the right things it won't go back. hope to see a bigger version of this sometime.

b0at responds:

awesome, glad u liked it. im loving the variety of responses to the puzzle. the atmosphere and style was the main focus of this and ive got uni break atm so ill get started on a much bigger version asap. thanks!

I just wasted waaaay too much time on this

I just spent like the past 5 hours playing this and it's awesome. The only parts that I would like changed are that I think that you should be able to regenerate full health after every battle (I just walk back and forth until it regens anyways); and I really wish that the special melee weapons also got the -1 ap bonus. Really the weapons do need to be a bit stronger. I find myself having to use a smoke grenade or flash bang on nearly every level now (73% done). That or make it so the attackers can't attack quite so many times.

Otherwise this game is absolutely wonderful. The levels are huge and with hidden breakable walls. The bosses are fun and there's several different types of enemies. I wish you had a bit more control over the random teleporter thing because I tried it out when I got it and then it teleported me way away when I would have not used it had I known what would happen. It takes forever to walk from place to place since there's so many fights. Maybe make the fights random so it happens less often?

revolverroach responds:

took your advice and made the fights random. as for the PID's teleporter, i really designed it to be random so that it fits into the whole Madness series history. the only thing i wanted it do reliably is revive your guys during combat.

great game

lot's of fun once you get the hang of it. I liked the art and random story plot

MonoFlauta responds:

Glad that you like it :)
